Commercial Counsel – India
Mode of Work
Remote, Full-Time
The role can be performed from anywhere in India, with a preference for candidates based in Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai or Hyderabad.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates should have:
- A law degree and qualification to practice law in India.
- 7+ years of relevant post-qualification legal experience.
- Strong in-house legal experience, preferably within the technology or SaaS sector.
- Experience working with a US-based or global multinational from India.
- Direct experience advising customers within and outside India.
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
- Strong ownership, independent decision-making and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Areas of Work / Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex commercial agreements, particularly enterprise customer and GTM/Sales contracts.
- Advising on SaaS, licensing and strategic partnership transactions.
- Supporting sales, business development and operations teams on go-to-market initiatives.
- Monitoring developments in data protection, technology and AI-related laws and regulations.
- Incorporating regional legal requirements into contracts and risk assessments.
- Developing and localising contract templates, playbooks and legal policies.
- Providing practical and commercially focused legal advice to business teams.
- Supporting commercial legal matters across India and, where required, the broader APAC region.
- Contributing to the growth and development of the company’s commercial legal function.
Required Skills and Experience
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial and technology agreements.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise software licensing and SaaS.
- Understanding of data protection and intellectual property laws.
- Experience advising on privacy, cybersecurity and cross-border data transfer matters.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
