Legal Job Opportunity | Principal Legal Counsel
Eligibility Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B.) from a university recognised by the Bar Council of India
- Registration with a State Bar Council and eligibility to practise law
- Minimum 7 years of experience as a practising lawyer or in-house counsel with primary focus on litigation
- At least 3 years of litigation experience before High Courts and/or the Supreme Court in writ jurisdiction/public interest litigation
- Strong legal research, drafting, analytical, and strategic thinking skills
- Knowledge of criminal law will be an added advantage
- Experience in drafting agreements and handling in-house legal matters preferred
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as FCRA, RBI Guidelines, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 will be an advantage
- Specialisation in Constitutional Law, Environmental Law, or Animal Rights Law preferred
- Fluency in English required; Hindi and regional language proficiency preferred
- Strong commitment towards animal rights and PETA India’s objectives
Areas of Work / Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Formulating legal strategies and managing litigation across various forums
- Coordinating with and briefing external counsels
- Drafting legal notices, police complaints, pleadings, agreements, and other legal documents
- Attending hearings before the Supreme Court, High Courts, and trial courts
- Conducting detailed legal research and strategy discussions
- Reviewing internal SOPs, agreements, and compliance processes
- Advising internal teams on legal risks and applicable laws
- Monitoring legal developments and identifying opportunities for legal action
- Maintaining organised litigation and correspondence records
