About the Organization
The Law Commission of India, functioning under the Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, undertakes research-oriented work in the areas of legal reform, law and policy development, and modernization of the legal system. The Commission has introduced a revised Voluntary Internship Scheme effective from 1 July 2025.

Eligibility Criteria
The following candidates are eligible to apply:
- Law students who have completed:
- At least 2 years of a 5-year LL.B. course, or
- At least 1 year of a 3-year LL.B. course
- Students must be enrolled in a recognized University, Law School, or Law College.
Additional Condition:
- A candidate may apply for internship only once during a financial year.
Duration
- Ordinary Duration: 4 Weeks
- Extension: Can be extended up to 8 weeks subject to approval and recommendation of the supervising officer.
Areas of Work / Key Responsibilities
Interns may be required to:
- Conduct legal research and analysis on legislations and judicial decisions
- Work on legal reform and policy-related research
- Assist in drafting research papers, consultation reports, and working documents
- Compile case laws, statutes, comparative legal materials, and literature reviews
- Assist Chairperson, Members, and Research Officers in ongoing studies
- Participate in seminars and discussions organized by the Commission
- Submit a short research paper or digitised presentation at the end of the internship.
Mode of Work
- Interns will ordinarily work from the Law Commission’s Office at Lok Nayak Bhavan, Khan Market, New Delhi.
- Hybrid or remote working options may be considered depending on the nature of work and circumstances.
Stipend / Perks
- This is an unpaid internship.
- Selected interns will be provided access to:
- Commission’s Library
- Legal databases
- Internet facilities
- Workspace and related resources.
Attendance Requirement
- Interns are required to maintain a minimum of 75% attendance.
- Failure to meet attendance requirements may result in denial of internship extension and certificate issuance.
Certificate
A certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the internship and evaluation of the intern’s work, research paper, or presentation.

Interested candidates must apply online at least two months before the intended internship start date.
Applicants are required to submit:
- Updated CV
- Scanned copy of institutional ID card
- Signed and stamped recommendation letter from a Professor or Dean
- Latest/last marksheet.

Selection Procedure
Selection will be made by a screening committee on the basis of:
- Academic performance
- Statement of purpose
- Availability of internship slots.
Important Notes / Additional Information
- Maximum internship slots ordinarily will not exceed 12 at a time.
- Interns must maintain confidentiality regarding all materials and information accessed during the internship.
- The revised scheme will come into effect from 1 July 2025.
