GIF Support Comes To Google Chat For These Users

By Khan Ahmad Darvesh

Internet search giant Google has implemented support for sending GIFs in Google chat on the web. This feature is available to all Google Workspace customers, as well as G Suite Basic and Business customers. To this end, Google has integrated Tenor for this purpose. With this feature, users will be able to search and send GIFs in Google chat on the web.

users will see a new “GIF” icon, which will open an extended window for browsing GIFs. Here, users can find GIFs by searching or filtering by popular categories such as “trends”.

Specifically for administrators, it has enabled a new setting to control the use of this GIF integration within your organization. Administrators can enable or disable this GIF integration in the management console by going to Applications> Google Workspace> Google Chat Settings> GIF. This integration is enabled by default for all clients.

When will this feature be enabled?

Google stated that administrators will see these settings starting September 1, 2021, allowing them to be configured one week before the end user experience rolls out.

After the administrator has enabled this feature, users will be able to find and insert GIFs by selecting the “GIF” icon in the Google chat compose bar.

As a reminder, Google’s “mandatory transition” from Hangouts to Google Chat has not been welcomed by many users because the app’s rating has been declining. The conversion of corporate users is almost complete, and the company has been asking individual account holders to switch to Google Chat. In the Play Store review, users pointed out that Google Chat lacks customization options, does not support text messages and stickers, and does not have a dedicated gallery browser for attaching media.
