Unilever is inviting applications for the position of Legal Associate – Trademark to join its Global Intellectual Property Legal Team at the UniOps Bengaluru Centre. The role supports global Trade Mark Counsels across multiple business groups and involves end-to-end management of international trade mark portfolios, enforcement, and brand protection initiatives.
Job Details
- Job Title: Legal Associate – Trademark
- Team: Global Unilever Intellectual Property (IP) Legal Team
Areas of Work / Key Responsibilities
- Conducting trade mark clearance searches and advising on availability and registrability
- Coordinating with external law firms on trade mark filings, prosecution, renewals, and cost estimates
- Supporting oppositions, cancellations, Statements of Use, and renewal matters
- Monitoring trade mark watch services and identifying potential infringements
- Assisting in enforcement actions, including anti-counterfeiting and grey market matters
- Drafting pre-action correspondence, settlement agreements, and witness statements
- Supporting IP-related agreements, including copyright assignments
- Managing domain name portfolios and conducting audits
- Assisting in IP integration and divestiture in M&A transactions
- Preparing authorisation letters, portfolio reports, certificates, and ad-hoc IP documentation
- Maintaining trade mark precedent banks, templates, and playbooks
- Preparing presentations and training materials for internal stakeholders
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)
- LL.M. in Intellectual Property preferred
Experience
- 2 to 4 years of experience in international trade mark portfolio management
- Hands-on experience in trade mark clearance, prosecution, renewals, and enforcement
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of trade mark and copyright laws
- Excellent English drafting and legal advisory skills
- Strong analytical ability with high attention to detail
- Effective stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to work across jurisdictions, time zones, and cultures
- Process-oriented mindset with focus on operational excellence
Preferred
- Experience in opposition and cancellation proceedings
- Experience drafting IP-related agreements
- Understanding of the commercial aspects of IP advisory
- Prior exposure to a consumer goods or FMCG environment
