Fortified with the speedily rustled-up Czech title, Gnanasekaran Sathiyan recalls the time a few weeks ago when he decided to review his mistakes. He sat with his coach Subramaniam Raman to analyze his mistakes and watched the replay of his match at the Tokyo Olympics. The video was of him racing to Siu Hang Lam of Hong Kong. He gave a small laugh while saying that  he watched the video of his opening-round loss “three or four times.”

He said that these kinds of videos should be always watched by the players keeping all the emotions aside. He told that he had a complete analysis of the match like what all was right, what all went wrong, and also where he started playing safe.

He said that he had many bad losses in his career and this Olympics was one of them. It took him few days to come out of this. Those rough moments of watching the recording of a spectacular and surprising defeat and its analysis stayed with him when he traveled to Olomouc, in the eastern province of the Czech Republic.

His recent failures lead him to win in this event. The World No 39 and top seed at the ITTF Czech International Open put the recent failure behind him to win his career’s third tour title.

He had not played any match for 5 months which was also a reason to make him lose Olympics. He called this a hindrance. It’s that disappointment that made the title in Olomouc all the more important for him. He said that the special title has come to him at the right time when he was disappointed with his recent failure. Mixing play, making quick decisions, and thinking instinctively by his admission has come naturally to him. It’s what helped him get to the World No 24 rank which is the best ever achieved by an Indian.

He said that the title helped him in getting back to his ways. He said while giving a laugh that this title gave him assurance that he is back to his old Sathian mode.
