While attending a press conference organized by Press Trust of India, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly told that the proposed standalone test of India vs England should be treated as series-deciding fifth math that got canceled last week due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the camp of India and he ruled out that the possibility of it being treated as a one-off game.

The esteemed cricket association of England, The England and Wales Cricket Board, has written to ICC, seeking to form a Dispute resolution committee verdict on the fate of the canceled match that was to be played one week before at Old Trafford Manchester.

He told PTI that we want this series to be completed as it will be our first series won in England after 2007. Making clear regarding the cancellation of the past few matches he said that BCCI maintains the Test cricket in the ultimate format. And we don’t compromise with anything in it.

India was leading in matches by 2-1 when the match was called off last week because of positive COVID 19 cases. A forfeiture will allow the ECB to get insurance about 40 million pounds as reimbursement because of the cancellation.

Later defining World test Championship rules, Ganguly said that if the ICC deems that match was abandoned due to COVID-19 restriction/limitations then India will win the series by 2-1 as such cancellation will be considered as acceptable non-compliance.

There are so many series that got canceled in the past 18 months due to the COVID-19 crisis. India also canceled its home series of south Africa which cost a penalty of nearly 40-50 billion.

In a press conference, he further said that we hope that in near future there will be more concentration will be paid on medical advice that will allow series to go during COVID also. Because we know that how detrimental it is to the spectators when there is such a special series is going on of high quality. Test series is a priority of BCCI.

He said that this covid situation and circumstances are a cause of worry and we cannot force players to go ahead after a certain extent.
