About the Organization
Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy is an independent legal think tank dedicated to producing high-quality legal research to improve laws and governance in India. The organization works closely with the Central and State Governments, public institutions, and other stakeholders by providing research and legislative drafting support while also undertaking independent legal and policy research in areas of public importance.
About Vidhi Bengal
Vidhi Bengal is the newest state office of the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy and will commence operations in August 2026. The office will work closely with the Government of West Bengal on legislative and policy matters while also producing independent research on issues of significance to the state. The selected Research Fellow will have the opportunity to help establish the office from the ground up alongside the Lead of Vidhi Bengal.

Eligibility Criteria
Essential
- Undergraduate degree in Law (LL.B.).
- 0–2 years of relevant experience in public policy, litigation, or a law firm.
- Candidates with relevant internship experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Excellent legal research, legal drafting, communication, and presentation skills.
Desirable
- Master’s degree in Law or Public Policy.
- Experience working with government officials, civil society organizations, or similar stakeholders.
- Published work in journals, blogs, newspapers, or other legal publications.
- Familiarity with graphic design.
- Fluency in Bengali (spoken and written) will be strongly preferred.
Areas of Work / Key Responsibilities
The selected Research Fellow will:
Government Engagement
- Draft primary and subordinate legislation on matters within the State’s legislative competence.
- Attend and present at meetings, consultations, and briefings with government officials and other stakeholders.
Research & Policy Work
- Prepare research reports, policy briefs, research notes, and position papers.
- Write op-eds, articles, blogs, and contribute to podcasts and videos for public dissemination.
- Conduct independent legal and policy research.
- Ensure timely delivery of assignments with high standards of quality and accuracy.

Stipend / Remuneration
- Competitive remuneration based on the candidate’s experience and Vidhi’s existing compensation structure.
