Part-Time Consultant (Legal) – Contractual Engagement
Eligibility Criteria
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- LL.B. degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university/institute recognized by the Bar Council of India.
- Eligibility to be registered as an Advocate with any State Bar Council or the Bar Council of India under the Advocates Act, 1961.
- At least 10 years of experience in legal practice before a Court of Law; or
- Expertise in legal matters with a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in Government Departments, including handling court cases.
Desirable Qualifications
- Knowledge of Government rules.
- Experience in RTI matters.
- Knowledge of Patent and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
- Experience in service matters.
Areas of Work / Key Responsibilities
The selected Consultant will be responsible for:
- Providing legal opinions on matters concerning the Institute.
- Preparing para-wise comments for Original Applications (OAs), Writ Petitions, SLPs, PILs, and other court matters.
- Advising on RTI and service-related issues.
- Scrutinizing counter affidavits prepared by counsel.
- Vetting contracts, tenders (NITs), MoUs, agreements, and other legal documents.
- Representing the Institute in arbitral proceedings.
- Attending court hearings on behalf of the Institute where required.
- Handling pending and new cases before courts, tribunals, and commissions.
- Maintaining and monitoring records of pending litigation.
- Advising on employee disputes, construction and estate matters, arbitration, contracts, and settlement of service-related issues.
Mode of Work
- Part-time (Contractual)
- Location: Indian Statistical Institute, Bengaluru Centre.
- The Consultant is required to attend the office on all working days for at least three hours per day and be available for consultation beyond office hours, including holidays, when required.

- Notification Date: 9 July 2026

- Initial Contract Duration: One year, extendable annually for up to two additional years, subject to satisfactory performance and institutional requirements.
Salary
- Fixed Consolidated Remuneration: ₹40,000–₹50,000 per month (depending on relevant experience), plus applicable taxes.
- No additional allowances or benefits are admissible.

Selection Procedure
