About the Organization
The Square Circle Clinic is a criminal justice initiative housed at NALSAR University of Law. It undertakes pro bono criminal defence for death row prisoners and undertrial prisoners, particularly in Pune and Nagpur, and carries out extensive research and public engagement on issues such as the death penalty, forensics, criminalisation and punishment, science and technology in criminal justice, prevention of torture, legal aid, and mental health. The Clinic’s team earlier conducted this work as Project 39A and transitioned to NALSAR in April 2025.

Eligibility Criteria
- Undergraduate degree in Law is mandatory
- Familiarity with criminal law and the Indian criminal justice system is preferred
- Minimum two years of relevant work experience is preferred
- Proficiency in English is required
- Knowledge of at least one Indian language is desirable
Areas of Work / Key Responsibilities
- Contributing to the design and implementation of the Clinic’s research agenda
- Conducting data collection and fieldwork for research projects
- Analysing and synthesising research findings for academic and policy dissemination
- Publishing articles in reputed peer-reviewed journals
- Assisting in research briefs, reports, and white papers
- Writing shorter pieces for mainstream media and other platforms
- Building collaborations with central and state criminal justice agencies
- Representing the Clinic at national and international forums
- Supporting institutional strategy, administration, and overall development of the Clinic

Extendable annually at the discretion of the University
Salary / Remuneration
Rs. 65,000 to Rs. 80,000 per month
Salary will be commensurate with experience
