Legal Job Opportunity – Data Legal Counsel (Assistant Vice President)
Eligibility Criteria
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law.
- Qualified lawyer enrolled in India.
- Prior experience, preferably with a leading global financial institution or law firm.
- Strong legal risk management, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple stakeholders effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Sound understanding of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (India), along with the applicable Rules.
- Exposure to US, EU, and Asia-Pacific data protection regulations.
- Certifications such as CIPP/A, CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT (IAPP), ISO 27001, or equivalent privacy/security certifications are desirable.
Areas of Work / Key Responsibilities
Data Privacy & Governance
- Provide day-to-day legal advice on data privacy and data governance matters in India.
- Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for data privacy and governance.
- Support Product Legal, Country Legal, Compliance, Procurement, and other stakeholders on privacy-related matters.
- Advise on lawful basis identification, consent management, cross-border data transfers, regulatory requests, data retention, and disclosure requirements.
- Review and negotiate employee and customer privacy notices, consent language, and supplier agreements.
- Support the maintenance of data inventories and Data Transfer Impact Assessments (DTIAs).
- Assist with Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) and related compliance obligations.
Cyber, Data & Emerging Technology
- Advise on cybersecurity, intellectual property, emerging technologies, and technology deployment.
- Draft and review data protection policies, cybersecurity protocols, privacy documentation, and technology agreements.
- Conduct legal research on evolving data protection and technology laws.
- Deliver legal training on cybersecurity, privacy, and regulatory compliance.
- Identify legal and regulatory developments and recommend appropriate compliance measures.
