About the Organization
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is a statutory body established under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. The Commission works towards the protection and promotion of human rights in India and has been conducting internship programmes since 1998 to spread awareness among university students about human rights.

Online Short-Term Internship Programme (OSTI)
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must fall under any of the following categories:
- Students studying in the 3rd year and onwards of any integrated 5-year postgraduate course.
- Students studying in the 3rd year or final year of a graduation course.
- Students pursuing any semester/year of a postgraduate degree course (including students enrolled in the 3-year LL.B. programme).
- Students pursuing any semester/year of a postgraduate diploma course.
- Research scholars in any discipline.
Additional requirements:
- Minimum 60% marks in Class XII and in the first four semesters of the graduation/five-year integrated course.
- Applicants must submit a 250-word Statement of Purpose (SoP) on “Statement of Purpose for joining NHRC Online Short Term Internship.”
- Preference will be given to students with research potential in the field of human rights.
- Applicants who have previously attended an NHRC Internship Programme are not eligible.
- Applicants should not be more than 28 years of age as on 1 July 2026.
Areas of Work / Key Responsibilities
The internship will include:
- Lectures and interactive sessions with the NHRC Chairperson, Members, senior Government officials, and domain experts.
- Group project on human rights issues.
- Book review activity.
- Learning through films on human rights issues.
- Virtual field visits to jails, police stations, NGOs, and shelter homes.

- Timings: 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM (Monday to Friday)

- Internship Duration: 3 August 2026 to 14 August 2026

Stipend / Perks
Selected interns will receive:
- Stipend of ₹2,000 upon successful completion of the internship.
- Certificate of Participation (subject to punctuality, discipline, participation in online sessions, and timely submission of project work and book review).
- Exposure to human rights law and policy through expert interactions and practical learning.
Application Process
Applicants must submit their applications online along with:
- Scanned self-attested copies of Class X, Class XII, and first four semester mark sheets.
- A 250-word Statement of Purpose.
- Letter of Recommendation (LoR) from the Principal/HOD/Dean in the prescribed format.
