Virat Kohli, the captain of the Indian cricket team, became the quickest player in history to achieve 23,000 runs in international cricket on Thursday.
Kohli reached the milestone on the first day of the fourth Test against England, when he batted for the 490th time. Against his arch-nemesis James Anderson on Day 1 of the 4th Test between India and England at the Oval in London, Virat Kohli needed just one run to reach that mark, which he achieved with a brilliant on-drive.
The India captain was ultimately removed by Ollie Robinson for 50, his 27th dismissal in the longest version of the game.
Virat Kohli has surpassed legends like as Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, and Kumar Sangakkara in terms of international success. In fact, the India skipper is just the seventh batsman in the history of international cricket to reach 23,000 runs. With 34,357 runs, Sachin Tendulkar is the greatest run-getter in international cricket, followed by Kumar Sangakkara (28,016) and Ricky Ponting (28,016 runs), according to the International Cricket Council (27,483).
Kohli is now ranked seventh in the overall rankings and is closing up on Rahul Dravid’s record of 24208 runs, which he currently holds.
The 32-year-old is a powerful scorer who averages more than 50 points each game in all three forms.
In 96 Tests, he has scored 13,646 runs, while in 254 One-Day Internationals, he has scored 13,061 runs.
In 89 Twenty20 Internationals, he has amassed a total of 2272 runs.
As a result, Virat Kohli has been through a dry spell in international cricket, having failed to register an international century since November 2019. His record, though, has allowed him to surpass a significant milestone by surpassing all of the big runs he’s scored in the past.
