Legal Job Opportunity – In-house Legal Role (IP and Commercial Contracts)
About the Job
Cipla India is inviting applications for the position of Team Member – Legal to support its IP and CGA Legal Department. The role involves end-to-end handling of intellectual property matters, commercial contracts, legal research, and project support, with regular coordination with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
Eligibility Criteria
- LL.B. degree
- 2 to 5 years of total legal experience
- Strong experience in Intellectual Property laws, particularly Trademark and Copyright
- Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts
- Ability to independently handle assignments with minimal supervision
Areas of Work / Key Responsibilities
Trademarks
- Conducting trademark searches in India and international jurisdictions
- Advising on registrability, use, and commercial risks
- Supporting product launches through IP risk assessment and mitigation
- Drafting and responding to examination reports, oppositions, counterstatements, and affidavits
- Attending show cause hearings
- Managing trademark renewals, branding, coining, and trade dress reviews
- Drafting cease and desist notices and advising on misuse and disparagement
- Conducting trademark due diligence
- Drafting and negotiating IP assignment agreements
Copyright
- Drafting and reviewing disclaimers, consent letters, and patient information leaflets
- Reviewing privacy policies and terms of use for websites and mobile applications
- Advising on advertisements, videos, and digital content
- Handling copyright and domain name-related matters
Commercial Contracts
- Drafting and negotiating trademark and copyright license agreements
- Drafting and negotiating NDAs, CDAs, service agreements, franchise, and settlement agreements
- Reviewing IP clauses across commercial contracts
- Handling supply, distribution, material transfer, product registration, and in-licensing agreements
- Identifying and flagging legal and commercial risks
- Ensuring internal approvals prior to contract finalisation
Key Interactions
- Business and functional teams for requirements and documentation
- Counterparties for negotiation and contract finalisation
- External counsels and law firms for opinions and litigation support
Major Challenges
- Managing a high volume of commercial agreements and IP matters
- Independently handling basic contracts while supporting senior legal team members
- Maintaining quality, turnaround time, and cost efficiency
