According to reliable sources, nine people have been nominated to the Supreme Court and will likely take the oath of office on August 31 (Tuesday).
Due to the fact that the Supreme Court will be closed on August 30 in observance of Janmashtami, the swearing-in will take place the following day.
The Supreme Court’s working strength will increase from 24 to 33 as a result of these new appointments. According to the Constitution, the Court’s sanctioned strength is 34, and the Court is presently operating with 10 vacancies.
The nine judges who will be taking the oath of office are as follows:
Judges who are female:
Justice Hima Kohli, Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court; Justice BV Nagarathna, a judge on the Karnataka High Court; and Justice Hima Kohli, Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court (could become the first woman Chief Justice of India)

Three of the nine – Justices Vikram Nath and BV Nagarathna, as well as Senior Advocate PS Narasimha – would go on to become the Chief Justice of India in the coming years (CJI).
In accordance with clause (2) of Article 124 of the Indian Constitution, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka, Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India with effect from the date on which he assumes charge of his office, according to the official notification. Oka previously served as Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.
Justice Oka will be the most senior of the nine justices appointed to the bench.
Because of the appointments, the Supreme Court will now have four female justices for the first time – Justices Nagarathna, Kohli, and Trivedi, in addition to Justice Indira Banerjee, who is now the sole female judge on the court.
